Joyful Ruins

Discovering joy in the hard places

My prayer for 4th of July

Lord, thank you for this land of the free. I pray that such a description would be true for ALL in this country. May freedom and welfare extend to ALL people’s. May Your freedom, freedom in Christ especially, extend to ALL peoples.

Keep us from using our freedom for ourselves. Just as You blessed the Israelites to be a blessing, let American believers use their blessing of freedom to bless others with the same freedom. After all, we have no reason to boast apart from You. We have no reason to feel entitled to any right or freedom. Change hearts, even today, to reflect on their own freedoms and not demand more for themselves but desire it for and fight for others.

I pray not for America’s greatness, but for peace, reconciliation, gentleness, love, justice, and all that comes from a nation turned to You.

May we use any freedoms we have in this country to care for the vulnerable, stand up for the oppressed, feed the hungry, bless the poor, and share Your truth. Take freedom and make it fully Yours in our hearts, minds, and this land so we may see and use it in a Christ-centered way.

All glory, honor, and power to You Lord Jesus, Amen.
