Joyful Ruins

Discovering joy in the hard places

To those who Wrestle with Comparison

The battle to not compare. Tale as old as time.

Truly, read the Bible and see comparison start from the very beginning.

The enemy snakes in at Genesis and convinces Eve she is lacking, convince Eve to compare herself with God!

Cain compares himself to Abel. Saul to David. Sarah with Hagar. Paul with John and so on.

It’s a tough battle, and is in our sinful DNA, but as a follower of Christ, we no longer need succumb to sin. We are a new creation and can find freedom from comparison in Christ.

There is only One who has the right to compare, judge, or measure us. Not even we have the right to do so for ouself. God made us, gives us purpose. God judges us justly. Withouth Christ this measuring will make us fall short every time and God has the right to instruct judgement. Instead, God saw is un our sin and sent His son to destroy it’s power completely.

Now God does not judge us according to deeds, others, our sins, thoughts, work. God judges according to the life, death, and resurrection of Jesus when we choose to follow Him and believe in His finished work.

We may continue to struggle with the sin of comparison. Peter did. He loved Jesus above all others and still compared himself to John. Perhaps he continued to battle comparison all his life. Perhaps you and I will too.

We can fight it; with the weapons that Christ gives us, by fixing our eyes and thought on Him and proclaiming His truth to ourselves and the world.

Satan will still hit us with the temptation to compare and we may continue to find ourself weak, but our strength is in Christ. With His help we can fight the battle and like Peter, we will still be able to live our life to glorify Him.

Remember that when the battle comes, that you may fight with it all your life, but you fight with Christ on your side and the final result is victory!
