Joyful Ruins

Discovering joy in the hard places

Blurry Reflections

The water reflecting the sky

Is most beautiful and clear

When it is as still as glass

Nothing disturbs it

And it is like

Looking at another perfect sky

Perfect world

So utterly entrancing

And yet

The water ripples

Moves

Is disturbed

Something falls into it

A duck swims across

A twig drifts

The reflection is blurred

It is clearly a reflection

Not the sky itself

The beauty has not disappeared

The beauty has changed

Like a painting of the sky

The masterpiece of a blurry reflection

Leads one to look closer

To seek deeper what the water reflects

Just as us

We reflect Jesus

At times

We are a glossy perfect reflection of the King

And we all sit in awe of such a picture

But the world is broken

Our reflection ripples

It becomes blurred

Still

There is beauty in this blurry reflection of Christ

Not a dirtied reflection

The cross makes sure of that

But an imperfect reflection

One that points to the artist

Of this blurry but beautiful painting on this earth
