Haggai 1:1-11
In this first chapter of Haggai, the people of Judah are so focused on the building of their own houses and lives, they have pushed aside God.
The Lord tells them, through Haggai, the consequences of such a life. As they plant, they will harvest little, as they eat and drink, they will not be satisfied. They may have clothes, but will never be warm, and money, but it will never last.
The Lord warns them that prioritizing these earthly matters over Him will only bring emptiness and dissatisfaction.
Then, He goes on to tell them to build His house. If they do, life will change.
This happens to us, as well, in our every day lives. We may grow anxious, find ourselves in burn out, hit walls in our relationships or work. So, ask yourself, what or who is your priority? Is God first? Do you make sure to spend time with Him, to honor Him above all else?
Be sure not to allow the Lord’s house to remain in ruin while you are busy with your own.
God has made it so that if you make Him your priority, everything else will follow. If your heart is right, your food, clothing, wages, will all satisfy and be fruitful.
Remember this truth when life seems out of sorts, remember the call to build the house of the Lord.
