Discovering joy in the hard places

Jesus Predicts His Resurrection

I find it interesting that Jesus did not leave His disciples in the dark when it came to His death or resurrection.

Many times He shared that He would suffer, die, and rise again. The response from His disciples ranged from disinterest to actually arguing that it wouldn’t happen if they could help it (remember Simon?).

As I write this, I am processing how Jesus speaks to us and how we respond. Could God be telling you there will be victory in your darkness? And for whatever reason, you aren’t receiving it.

Look at the disciples, they were told He would die and they were told He would rise and yet they were still very confused and shaken when all of what He said came to pass.

Perhaps, we, too, may hear God tell us we will have victory, we will be resurrected, but in the midst of life, darkness, trials, limited understanding, we don’t trust Him or we don’t hear, pay attention, understand, or even like what He says.

The thing is though, it did not matter what the disciples wanted or thought they understood, God’s will and plan prevailed. It came to pass even though they didn’t listen, understand, or trust fully.

Darkness turned into light. Death turned into resurrection. Scarlet sins turned into white as snow. Separation from God turned into eternity with Him.

Could He be doing the same for you? Has he told you there will be victory? I know it may be hard to believe or hear right now, but, just remember, what He says will come to pass. It does not depend on you always believing or listening one hundred percent. However, you can choose to believe and listen in order to experience greater peace and closer intimacy with Him in the midst of the trial. Still, don’t worry, His specialty, whether you are fully believing it or not right now, is turning things completely around.
