Joyful Ruins

Discovering joy in the hard places

Remains True

“The Quest stands upon the edge of a knife. Stray but a little and it will fail, to the ruin of all. Yet hope remains while the company is true.” – Tolkien

Has it felt as though the journey you are on stands upon the edge of a knife?

I must admit, I feel that often. My strength, my hope, my courage, all are so diminished. All it would take is one step in the wrong direction and all would fail.

However, the company I have, we have, is true, and therefore we always have hope.

Jesus Christ is the truest company you can have in this life. He is unchanging, never leaving, always working, and fantastically gentle.

Even if you doubt Him, He remains faithful. So, you see, there is always hope for just like Sam would never leave Frodo, Jesus will never leave you on your quest.

Another encouraging thought is that we can be true company too. If we remain true to Christ and ourselves, always turning to Him no matter what, even in anger, sadness, or fear, then we also contribute to the hope.
