3 While he was in Bethany, reclining at the table in the home of Simon the Leper, a woman came with an alabaster jar of very expensive perfume, made of pure nard. She broke the jar and poured the perfume on his head.
4 Some of those present were saying indignantly to one another, “Why this waste of perfume? 5 It could have been sold for more than a year’s wages[a] and the money given to the poor.” And they rebuked her harshly.
6 “Leave her alone,” said Jesus. “Why are you bothering her? She has done a beautiful thing to me.
What if you are the Alabaster Jar? Priceless, beautiful, valuable. Your life.
And you choose to pour it out on the head of Jesus, to give it all to God.
“She broke the jar and poured it on his head.”
To pour it on His head, brokenness comes first. Our lives will not be fully given to God without our breaking because in breaking, our hearts come alive to the truth that all we need is Jesus and our gratitude will overflow. Then, we truly are poured out onto Him, nothing holding us back.
Others will always offer judgement and advice when we pour our life out on Christ.
Why?
Because, even to religious people, our intimate relationship with God and what He calls us to do will look foolish from time to time.
Others will tell you that you are wrong. They will look down on you, question you, and guilt you.
But please remember Christ’s response. “She has done a noble thing for me.”
You see, when you choose Jesus over everything else. When you recognize the honor, importance, and beauty of His presence with you on this earth, and you choose to savor that over all other things, God is so pleased.
Because it is not about your deeds, or meeting expectations. It is about your heart and expressing Your love of Christ through your broken life.
