Joyful Ruins

Discovering joy in the hard places

Love in Many Forms

love

I put you in a box

to look one way or another

I was searching for you

My eyes fixed on one point

one way

oh

but you move

change

breathe

shift

you are not one shade

but many

my eyes open

to find you

anywhere

whenever

you hide

in plain sight

you are discoverable

but only when I

step out of lines

only when I

celebrate

your diversity

the truth

that you come

in many shapes

and sizes

And I cannot

put expectations on you

for when I do

I feel unloved

because I am not

letting you free

I’m stifling you

love does not always

look like me

though it can

and that’s beautiful

but it also looks like you

it looks like wisdom

logic

AND it looks like

creativity

sensitivity

It’s found in food

found in service

flows from hearts

flows from minds

I think

the answer is

to open my eyes

hands

heart

to its many forms

because when I do

I see it’s true

love finds a way
