Joyful Ruins

Discovering joy in the hard places

Do not Fear Decay

I cannot prevent decay

and yet I’ve been taught

to fight even the slightest sign of it

to fear it even

but You did not fight it

You embraced it

You did not shrink back from it

You chose it

death is all we run from

scrambling to stop its force

we cannot

Decay does not delay

from the moment we are born

the signs of death are nearby

and we scream and cry at it

we use everything we have

to throw at it

we spend our lives

attempting to control it

Why?

You embraced it

You accepted it

You conquered it

not for Yourself

You saw death and it’s shadows

destroy Your loved ones

and so You swallowed it

You swallowed and destroyed its power

So

I do not need to fear decay

or fight it

but with every year

every ache

every loss

I am reminded of Your

Your love

Your choice

the victory

I need not run

or waste my time controlling

because death may come

but life comes in the morning
