Joyful Ruins

Discovering joy in the hard places

Gratitude

Gratitude

Is not just an attitude

It is a choice

To take it all in

To soak it up

And treasure it

As a famous one said

To suck the marrow

Out of life

To not just walk outside

But gaze up

At the white clouds

Against the crisp blue sky

Not just to wake up

And trudge through your day

But sing from your heart

As you pick up flowers along the way

To not just listen to others

Or pass them by

But to hear their story

And see their humanity

There is beauty everywhere

If we take the time to care

If we take deep breaths

And slow our pace

We’ll see it in every face

The brilliance of life

The vulnerability of it all

Fleeting and strife

Yet that is what

Makes life so grand

It’s short and sinks

As quick as sand

But there’s much to behold

There’s much to delight in

And I choose today

To be present to it all
