Joyful Ruins

Discovering joy in the hard places

Mother’s Day Poem for All

To all the mothers

By blood or not

Here on earth

Or up above

To all those you have loved

And tenderly cared for

To those who were mothers

To children not theirs

Who kissed faces and dried up tears

To new mothers on this day

Experiencing the joy

Of what they gave

To bring a life into this world

And to those waiting to be called that name

Your heart has mother written on it

And that is enough today

For me to say

Thank you

And to those who have lost

And no longer bear that name

You’ll never truly lose that place

For the child gone

Is no doubt

In heaven rejoicing over you

And to those children

Adult or not

Who have no mother to say thank you to

If your mom has passed from earth

I give you my heart and love today

And pray

That your thoughts will cherish the sweet memories you have

And instead of ache

Those places of sorrow

will fill With songs of who they were to you

Still, my heart is with you today

And to those who had a mother

A mother who did not love them as they should

To you on this day

I hope you know

You are still loved

And that a mother

Does not have to be by blood

So remember today

That not all people feel loved

Celebrate those you can

And sit with those who can’t

Hold their hands through this day

And keep in your heart those treasures we call Mother
