Joyful Ruins

Discovering joy in the hard places

Poetry Book Title

Apologies for this not being a poem, but it is poetry related.

I have long gathered many poems about different things in life, as you all have read. And I thank you so much for following and liking and sometimes commenting. I hope my poetry has touched you, made you feel seen, lifted your hearts, and made a difference in your lives.

I have finally decided that I will publish a poetry book through Amazon. And don’t worry, this isn’t a call for you to purchase it, though, of course, I would love you too.

No, this post is to ask your advice on a title for the book. As the group of people who have chosen to read my poetry week after week, I value all of your thoughts and opinions more than any other group.

This poetry book will be a collection of some of my most meaningful poems.

Originally I was going to title it How the Wildflowers Grow. This is a reference to a verse that Jesus speaks about living life, but it’s also a beautiful reminder to be free, grow wild, and thrive in unlikely places. I chose this title because I was planning to publish only nature poems but I came to realize I didn’t have enough nature poems and I would be leaving out some of my best poems.

So, another title came up. My mom mentioned to me that if she were to give me an indigenous name, it would be Water Runs Deep. Now, we are not indigenous and I apologize if that offends any indigenous person. It was through a conversation of talking about Pretty Shield, a Crow woman, well known in Montana. My mom was thinking about what defines me and she spoke that. This stuck with me and the other title I came up with is When Water Runs Deep.

Of these two, which would you like the most:,

How the Wildflowers Grow

When Waters Run Deep

I so appreciate any and all feedback.

Thank you.

I’m partial to When Waters Run Deep. Mostly because water can be intense and even destructive, while also being essential to life and relaxing. Even shallow waters can drown someone. I feel like it encompasses many things metaphorically.

I’ll definitely buy it when it’s available!
