Joyful Ruins

Discovering joy in the hard places

Small Divinities

Have you gazed into a flower

or watched where you are stepping?

Have you felt the grassy fields

or touched the needles on a pine?

Have you smelled the dew of rain

or listened to the bird songs?

No,

Instead you wait for heaven

wondering what is beyond

Instead you mold this world

to look like what you want

To make it into what serves you best

Instead you wonder what you’re worth

and assign worth to others

but the Divine teaches us

that divinity

is in the smallest creature

that all the answers we seek

are grounded in the dirt

and whispered in the wind

sung by the birds
