Joyful Ruins

Discovering joy in the hard places

May Fireworks Unite Us

Tonight I sat under fireworks with people I disagree with. To the point of it being a matter of morality.

Though this put me on edge for most of the celebration, as the bright colorful lights went off and made me smile at their beauty, some of that tension melted away.

Not so much because beautiful things make it all all right, but because under this sky of fireworks, we are all humans and moments like this connect us.

They remind us that we each wake up for work or go home and struggle to put our child to bed. That each of us is vulnerable, awed by beauty, entertained by joys and music.

And as this little girl near me sang out loudly a song that was playing, I couldn’t help but have a warm heart. A warm heart towards the hopes and possibilities that we may just find each other and all care for each other equally.
