Joyful Ruins

Discovering joy in the hard places

Tainted Memories

Will every memory

I have with you

feel tainted

or can I recall

that then

we were happy?

When I look

on that time

how we laughed

what we saw

Can it remain

a joy

rather than a loss?

I hope we can

learn

to see all the good

the adventure

the heart

the grinning faces

miraculous moments

because

I don’t like

that so many memories

become sad

because

so many people leave

I am here to reclaim them

to recall

the contentment

In the moment

the ignorance to what may come

No matter how short lived

I believe

it was worth it

and I am glad for it
