Joyful Ruins

Discovering joy in the hard places

Perfect Jesus?

Was Jesus perfect in the sense that he never got angry, said the wrong things, never got sick or lost faith? OR was he perfect in that he relentlessly followed love, mercy, and justice?

Because…

Jesus got angry at his disciples and the pharisees.

Jesus did not always respond in the perfect way.

Jesus grew tired and probably sick.

Jesus asked for the cup to be taken from him.

AND

He persistently loved the unloved, stayed and taught his disciples despite their shortcomings.

He fought for those being mistreated.

Jesus was human while focused on divine love for everyone.

I like this take. We often equate His perfection as lack of mistakes, but from a human pov, the things he said at times riled people, and the ones looking at actions too acutely were the ones watching Him make what looked like many mistakes. His perfection is more about his character than His words or actions. Though I’d argue that when he riled people, they needed that. When he broke human rules, it was essential. In that way, He’s still perfect as it all aligned to the Heavenly Father’s plan.

    1. Yes. I think his perfection is misunderstood for sure.
